This is a video review of the Mimo 710-S mini display. By trade I am a freelance graphic designer and I live a nomadic life. So my rig has to completely break down and travel well. This little display is perfect for carrying extra palettes for apps, twitter clients, and playing/streaming video. The latter was the reason for me purchasing this display. The design apps I use take up my entire screen and I wanted something portable that would allow me to travel easily. This screen folds up perfectly and fits very nicely in my bag. For this review I tested it on my Intel powered Unibody Macbook Pro. Please note that these displays will only work on Intel powered Macs. I was most worried about how the display would perform while running cpu-intensive apps. I saw no frame-rate drop while running an assortment of CPU-sucking apps. Currently there is no driver for 64-bit Snow Leopard users and this is the reason I am going to take my time before upgrading. You can find out about the driver updates by visiting their official site: www.displaylink.com If you want a foldable display that will fit in your bag and not take up much room on your desk that doesn’t add much to your cable-clutter then this display is the PERFECT product for you! You can order these direct from Mimo at www.mimomonitors.com Music was by the wildly talented Dusty Zahrt http

I just wanted to write a follow up to this review after having this display for almost a year.
This device has held up perfectly! It has proven to be very durable and works great with all the OS updates on my Intel MacBook Pro. Mimo has made a fantastic product that is well worth the morning if you are looking for a small display.
Some have asked and I would figure it helps to include in the comments, the display does not have any speakers and only has one input which comes from a mini-USB
Could you set it up as a primary display?
Is it possible to run this on a laptop to control my winamp music list from this monitor ?
Thnx for the video
i just bought this for my emails lol to have my emails always open i have 2 24ins i should buy 1 more for other side to have im open
i want a revie won the touch screen vesion but good vid
you just need a bit of blue tack for it 1:07
classy!
The only thing thats a little distracting about this review is when you would face the camera and turn away while you were talking made the volume increase and decrease significantly, making it a little hard to focus on what you were talking about.
Other then that, I just might get me one of these things. ThinkGeek FTW!
thanks for the review good job!
It absolutely works if you have one monitor already plugged into your computer via the display port.
You can actually add up to 100+ usb displays to your computer through usb hubs, the only limitation is that it will slow your computer down a GREAT deal
awesome! thanks for the review!
Does it work if I already have an external monitor plugged into a DVI port on my MacBook Pro?
I have this as well… A+
ONE LITTLE SNAFU:
Right out of the box this USB monitor would not stay on if bumped or moved because the manufacturer included a mini-usb cable that did not fit the reciprocal correctly (the connection for the mini-usb is recessed down into the device within a tiny circular hole, and the hole size is smaller than the overall circumference of the manufacturer-included mini usb cable’s connection housing.)
…switching to a different USB cable nipped this in the bud.
Glad it helped! I too was wondering about the same things you were!
When your computer is running as hard as it can, you will see some frame rate drop on the display. But if you are working like I do then that really doesn’t matter too much. At the moment I am running VLC to watch a DVD and the screen still performs beautifully.
For some reason when you drag a window of the dvd player to the tiny screen, the dvd window travels right back to the original screen. That’s why I am using VLC!
Great Review!!! you answered all of my questions and concerns that some other review video’s did not cover or mention, like the Display frame rate of streaming video via USB displays like this one.
or the rumor that it required 2 usb ports to power. as a Fellow Macbook Pro user its good to know I didn’t have to find the old USB Hub just to have enough ports to power this baby,
Again thanks and kudos!!!
